Why do I want to continue to be your Kneehill County Division 5 County Councillor? This decision has been researched and discussed in my world for around the past 15 years. I do not take this decision lightly, I wanted to know that if the successful candidate, that I would have the time it takes to fully embrace this position. In terms of my family, our business and life, the time is now for me.
I’ve been interested in government from a young age, my social studies teachers from THS could attest to my love of discussion, debate and government policy. I worked for the Town of Three Hills many moons ago and this ignited my interest in local government. I’ve had the pleasure to work a few elections which I found interesting and also in the past been on the MPC committee.
This has spawned an interest in furthering my education through the University of Alberta, I am close to completing the Applied Land Use Program. I have completed the Municipal Law I course; Citizen Engagement and Consultation, Rural Environments and Planning Law to name a few. I don’t know everything there is to know about municipal government, but I love to learn, liason-collaborate and I can be a bit of a “pest” when it comes to finding out information; I don’t take no for an answer very well. I’ve learned that finding answers and being an advocate for our people can take determination, time and advocacy; all of which I am prepared to share in the role of Kneehill County Councillor.
How have I prepared myself for a role in Municipal Government?
-the past 3.5 years as a Kneehill County Councillor has been an amazing learning experience
-before I was elected in 2021, I attended council meetings in person as much as possible and if not in-person, I consistently watch council meetings online
-attend bylaw meetings in regards to revisions-ask questions as to why this is happening
-recently completed Economic Development for Elected Officials training
-Chamber of Commerce Member and Director
-attend the council candidate orientation in July 2021
-U of A courses
-engage with political leaders in the Federal and Provincial Government
-research, research, research
-engage current government officials and agencies
-most importantly, listen to residents and ratepayers about concerns, kudos, recommendations and what their ideas are for the future of Kneehill County
