One of my favorite specialists on the topic of community engagement, Max Hardy, is quoted as saying, “community engagement has the potential to strengthen democracy. It has the ability to also build community, build connections and do a whole lot more than provide input to decisions.” 

Community engagement requires time, effort and has to be more than a campaign promise. 

Citizen Engagement involves:

-mutual trust and respect

-early involvement

-open and timely communication

-involve a balanced perspective of stakeholders

-must be open, transparent and accountable

-evaluation of the process must be continuous to ensure effectiveness
